Certificate
of Graduate Study in Natural Resources

The
Virginia Tech College of Natural Resources is now offering a
fully approved Certificate of Graduate Study in Natural Resources.
The Certificate of Graduate Study in Natural Resources requires
the completion of a minimum of 12 credit hours of graduate course
work. At least 9 of these credit hours must be earned in courses
offered by the College of Natural Resources at the Northern
Virginia Center or another off-campus location (including virtual
campus courses). The remaining 3 credit hours may be earned
in approved courses other than those offered by the College
of Natural Resources. This includes, but is not limited to,
courses offered as part of the Master of Landscape Architecture
(MLA) and Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) programs
at the Virginia Tech.
To be eligible to receive the Certificate, students must have
a QCA of 3.0 or above within the 12 credit hours required. The
College of Natural Resources will award the certificate upon
completion of a minimum of 12 credit hours of approved courses
and upon petition by the student. Credit hours must be in 5000
or higher level courses. However, three credit hours (one course)
may be at the 4000-level if the course is approved for graduate
credit and is approved by the member of the CNR faculty responsible
for Northern Virginia programs.
Students seeking the Certificate of Graduate Study in Natural
Resources must complete NR 5724 (Conservation Ecology). The
remaining courses needed to meet the 12-credit-hour requirement
can be selected with the approval of the member of the College
of Natural Resources faculty responsible for Northern Virginia
programs. Additional courses are selected in order to meet the
student's professional and/or personal goals, considering previous
course work.
Natural
Resource Concentration - Master of Public Administration
The College of Natural Resources has a collaborative program
with the Center for Public Administration and Policy for a Master
of Public Administration with a concentration in Natural Resources.
The concentration calls for three natural resources courses
to be determined by the students committee. Students in this
program would be awarded the Certificate of Graduate Study in
Natural Resources upon completion of nine credit hours of courses
offered by the College of Natural Resources and an additional
3 credit hours of work in a Public Administration and Policy
(PAPA) course approved for inclusion the certificate program.
To receive the certificate, students must petition the College
of Natural Resources upon completion of the required course
work.
